See contact and reporting status. This is the public contact during beta testing. The notice remains a draft while the remaining launch requirements are reviewed.
2. Information we use and why
| Information | Purpose and handling |
|---|---|
| Saved articles | When you choose to save a story, its link, title, source, excerpt, attribution and related article information are stored in your browser. The site currently allows five saves. The saved library is not uploaded to a reader account. |
| Searches and reading controls | Article searches, categories and sorting run in the page. We have not implemented search-history storage, reading-event analytics or reader profiling. |
| Sign-in and access information | The public beta can be read without signing in. The hosting platform may process authentication information and necessary session cookies when the owner signs in. The owner-only news collection service checks a platform-verified user identifier and email to authorize updates. We do not store a separate reader-account database. |
| Technical request information | Hosting, security and delivery providers may process IP addresses, browser or device details, request URLs, timestamps and error information to deliver and protect the site. Provider-managed logs are distinct from the article database. |
| Public source and author information | We collect public news metadata, author names, image credits, source links, license information and verification records to attribute, review and display science reporting. These records are not your reading history. |
| Privacy and other inquiries | You can contact the operator directly at the beta email address above. When you email us, your sender address, message, any attachments and information you choose to provide are handled in Gmail to respond to your inquiry, review corrections or rights concerns, verify requests where necessary and meet applicable obligations. No public inquiry form is enabled on this website. Submission bodies sent to the disabled inquiry endpoint are not read, retained in the site database or forwarded to mail. Hosting providers may still process technical request information. Do not send passwords, payment-card details or unnecessary sensitive information. |
We do not use optional analytics or advertising cookies in the current site code. The browser storage described below supports features you choose; platform authentication may use necessary cookies. A consent banner is not a substitute for checking the actual providers and applicable law before optional tracking is enabled.
We do not currently collect payment details, newsletter subscriptions, precise location, advertising identifiers or a separate profile of the stories you read. The Premium screen is an inactive offer, not a checkout.
Legal grounds where required
Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, the intended grounds are providing the functions you request, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the service and attributing public sources, and compliance with applicable legal obligations. Consent will be requested where required before any optional tracking or new processing begins. The operator must confirm the applicable grounds and local requirements for the beta and any future changes. We do not make decisions about people that have legal or similarly significant effects using automated profiling.
3. Browser storage, retention and your choices
Saved articles are kept in your browser’s local storage. Saved articles have no automatic expiry in the browser: they remain until you unsave them, clear site data, or your browser removes its storage. Older bookmarks are migrated to the current format when possible. The ad-free layout preview lasts only for the current page session and is not a paid entitlement.
You can use the controls below for this browser. A download stays on your device; it is not sent to us. Clearing saves affects this site's browser storage and cannot be undone unless you have kept your own copy.
Remove every saved article from this browser? Download a copy first if you want to keep them.
You may also block or clear storage in your browser settings. Saves may not work if storage is blocked. Clearing this browser does not delete records held independently by the sign-in or hosting providers.
Published news appears in the current feed for 96 hours (four days) from its original publication time. Eligible stories then appear separately in “Earlier discoveries” until they are 30 days old, with their original dates. The collection service keeps article and collection records for up to 30 days, cleaned during subsequent collection runs. Automatic source summaries and supporting passages follow the same news-record retention period. This is a news-record retention period, not a promise about hosting or authentication logs. Technical logs follow the providers' operational retention and security arrangements, which remain subject to provider verification. Correspondence should be retained only as long as needed to resolve requests or comply with applicable obligations.
4. Providers, external content and disclosure
Beta contact email is handled using Google Gmail, separately from the site database. Emailing us involves processing by your email provider and Google; see Google’s privacy policy. The site is hosted using OpenAI's ChatGPT Sites infrastructure and Cloudflare services. Their role depends on the relevant service and agreement. Platform authentication and operational processing are governed by the applicable platform arrangements; see OpenAI's privacy policy and Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Fonts are currently requested from Google Fonts. Reviewed representative photos and AI illustrations are served by this site. Permitted original source photos and figures may be requested directly from their publishers or image-delivery providers. Those requests can disclose your IP address and browser request information to the relevant provider. Article images use a no-referrer setting. See Google Fonts privacy information. Clicking an original-article link takes you to an independent website with its own privacy, storage and advertising practices.
We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising in the current configuration. No Google AdSense, marketing analytics, affiliate tracking or payment processor has been installed. Information may be disclosed to service providers as needed to operate the site, to comply with legal requirements, to protect security and rights, or in connection with a lawful business transfer subject to applicable protections.
Providers and publishers may process information in countries other than yours, including the United States. The operator must confirm the applicable provider agreements, locations and any required international-transfer safeguards; this draft does not assert that an unverified agreement is in place.
5. Your privacy rights
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or obtain a copy of personal information, restrict or object to certain processing, withdraw consent where processing depends on it, appeal a denied request, and complain to a competent privacy regulator. We will not discriminate against you for exercising applicable rights. These rights may be subject to legal exceptions and reasonable identity verification.
Use the browser controls above for locally saved articles. Use the public privacy contact in section 1 for other requests and appeals. Platform account requests may also need to be directed to the relevant provider. Do not send sensitive identification documents unless a secure, proportionate verification method has been arranged.
The current site has no targeted-advertising or sale/sharing activity to opt out of. Global Privacy Control does not trigger a separate opt-out action for such activity because it is not enabled. Any future advertising setup must implement applicable consent and opt-out requirements before activation.
Children
Discoveries Daily is a general-audience science service and is not designed to collect personal information from children under 13. We do not offer child accounts or newsletter signup. If you believe a child has provided personal information, use the privacy contact above to request review and appropriate deletion. The operator must assess age-related requirements before changing access or features.
Security
We use HTTPS and platform access controls, and the news-update endpoint is restricted to the authenticated owner. The preview blocks submissions to its inquiry endpoint; direct email uses your email service and Gmail. Page responses restrict form submission, embedded objects and sensitive device permissions. The website does not submit or confirm delivery of email messages. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed secure. Browser saves can be accessible to other people who use your browser profile.
6. Advertising, Premium and future changes
Ad spaces are placeholders. Premium pricing is displayed for planning, but checkout, subscriber accounts and unlimited account-synced saves are not active. Newsletter signup is not offered.
Before enabling advertising, paid subscriptions, reader accounts or newsletters, we will need to update this notice for the actual providers, data and retention practices, review the public contact and inquiry-handling arrangements, and implement applicable consent and privacy-rights controls. A privacy policy alone does not supply consent or make a new feature legally compliant. Material changes will be explained through an updated notice and additional notices or choices where required.
